But those engines were pure shit. Maybe not the block, but everything around it was (including the distributor and the placement of the spark plugs). They also suffer from the GM interior disintegration plague and none are less than 20 years old now, so good luck on finding one with an intact interior.

I think I can find more than a few people that would tell you that the LT1 is anything but pure shit. :) The Optispark might be an issue, but thats no reason for me to dislike the car. And while there interior might not be amazing, it also depends a lot on how you treat it. There are plenty of extremely clean, low mileage Impalas out there, its not hard to find a very decent example that hasn’t been trashed by the previous owners.
